カナダのBlack Metal / Death Metalの2ndアルバム。

「The Apocalypse Side」と「The Abyss Side」の本編に，89年作デモ「Blood Upon the Altar」の9曲がカップリングされた，全19曲収録のサタニック教典。直球ストレートな最凶エクストリーム名盤。

80sアンダーグラウンドの最初期ピュア・スラッシュメタルが更に過激化／凶暴化して派生した，デスメタル／サタニックメタル／ブラックメタルの核を受け継いでエクストリームなメタルを追求した，何の混じりっ気も無い「真に黒い」ブラックメタルとは，Blasphemyのことを言う。ポーザーではなく 本物 なのでご注意。

EuronymousフォロワーやHelveteキッズの土壌を基に，ノルウェージャン・シーンやノルウェージャン・スタイルから派生して物凄い勢いで拡大・拡散していった，北欧や西欧，東欧，中近東などのセカンド・ウェイヴ・ブラックメタル・ムーヴメントの多くとは全く無関係。

ウォー・ベスチャル・ブラックメタルと呼ばれて分別・差別化されている，南米や東南アジア、北米に多く繁殖して根強く生息する，サタニック・ブラック・デスメタル一派の親玉のひとつ。
